“Presenting the 1968-69 Sailor Marching Band”
With these words, the “long black line” stepped off the goal line and went into the first of the routines which they had practiced since early August. In addition to the football shows, the group played at two marching festivals, at Oberlin and Bellevue, and did an exceptionally fine job at both. In November, the band settled down to prepare their music for the Winter Concert and the Lakeland Conference Band Festival at Wellington. In addition to the pep band, which played at all home basketball games, Mr. Burt started a stage band, which practiced the big-band arrangement of Glenn Miller and later performed in “Bye Bye Birdie.” The band ended the year by joining the choir for a very fine Spring Concert.
