Flag Corp Adds New Dimension
Festivals, awards, and improvements were all parts of the 1980-1981 Sailor Marching Band under head director David Henry, and assistant directors John Murphy and Joseph Price.
The marching band welcomed Miss Line Panebianco, a former member of the Bowling Green Marching Band, as an instructor of the new flag corps. The corps add color during halftime entertainment.
The band participated in four festivals around Ohio. One new experience was to march on astroturf, at the Midpark festival in Berea. The band also had the honor of playing halftime with Wellington at an Oberlin College game. Later that day, the band traveled to Massilon, an experience in itself. More than 25 band members hyperventilated due to extreme heat. The festivals were all successful and were tied together by the them “Have a Coke and a Smile.”
During the band banquet, four seniors received awards for their contributions. The outstanding senior band members were Tom Armstrong, Jodi Guba, Vicki Lundy, and Marc Ryan.
Hard practices and workouts helped to improve the band’s performances. The applause clearly showed the accomplishments the band had made throughout the year.
