Probably the biggest backers of the winning Sailor football team were the members of the Sailor Marching Band. These 97 students, led by director David Henry and assistant directors John Murphy and Joseph Price, attended and marched at the ten football games, regardless of the hot, humid August air, the rainy October weather, and the ice and snow of November.

In addition to games, the band marched at four festivals, including the annual Sailor Marching Band Fest, and the Woolybead Festival Parade, which for the second year was held in Vermilion.

For 30 seniors, this was their last marching band season at Vermilion High School. Being recognized as outstanding marching band seniors this year were Jess Adams, Tracy Crow, Janine Kendra, Marshall Micheals, and Robin Nunn.
