Marking Time
The V.H.S. Marching Band had an outstanding season. They started out the year with 36 new marchers in tow, including two foreign exchange students from Germany, Paul Buetow and Eva Kreutzer. This gave the band a total of 96 members.
The biggest adjustment the band had to make this year was the change from being an afterschool activity to becoming a class. This made it easier on the students because the activity was condensed into the school schedule instead of conflicting with jobs and other after-school activities. Even with this time crunch, Mr. Price stated that “the band made good strides in sound quality and in marching.”
The band participated in four festivals this year including their own Woolybear Marching Band festival to kick off the Woolybear weekend’s festivities. The festival was a success and Sailors took their usual place at the start of the parade. Other festivals included Bay, Midpark at Baldwin Wallace, and Avon Lake.
This year the band will be graduating 21 seniors. This is the biggest number of seniors to graduate from the Marching Band program since 1982.
