This year, was a time no one will ever forget. September 11th, 2001 brought students, friends, and families close together. With the help of the marching band, the town kept the flags flying and their hearts in tune.
To start off the year with a fresh beginning, the Sailor Marching Band kept their spirits high in the heat of practicing their drills during the summer camp. Late in July, started the training for new marchers. The Freshmen caught on quickly with their success and participation, brought a great last season for the senior class to remember. Keeping the crowds on their feet during the games, the Marching Band also, participated in festivals and parades such as the Christmas Parade, Woolybear Festival, and the Fish Festival.
Football fields, band festivals, and competition sites were made much more interesting and colorful by the performances of the VHS majorettes and flags. Numerous festivals, and the Cleveland Chrismas parade, and the annual Wooybear festival kept both groups busy during the fall.
But the winter was not the time to rest for the flag group as they entered competitions known as “Winter Color Guard.” Under the direction of Lisa Fiedler and Lee Ann Mayer, the girls perfected a set routine that earned them top scores at every competition on the circuit. After winning the state competition, the group was even asked to move to a more difficult level for next year. Now, that’s really good.
