Joseph Price
Joseph N. Price began his career teaching music in the Lower Merion Schools outside of Philadelphia for three years before moving to Ohio to finish his career with 28 years in the Vermilion Local Schools. In Vermilion he taught instrumental music at Sailorway Middle School for 15 years and ended with 13 years as the Vermilion High School band director. Joe is a product of Eastern Pennsylvania graduating from Souderton High School and continuing his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. He has done extensive graduate work at The Philadelphia College for the Performing Arts, West Chester University, Cleveland State University, and Marygrove College.
Joe’s bride of 33 years is Pat Price (nee Gorske) an Oberlin native, who taught English, Speech, and Drama in the Oberlin Schools and is also retired. Pat was the Sailor Marching Band announcer for 13 years and now announces for the VHS Alumni Band. Joe and Pat have two daughters, Mary Ana Hicks of Vermilion who is also a music teacher and mother of grandson Braiden, and Rebecca Price who works in Las Vegas for a world-famous illusionist.
In retirement, when he’s not traveling around the USA with Pat, Joe is very busy playing trumpet with the Solid Brass, the LCCC Civic Concert Band, the LCCC Civic Orchestra, and in many local churches and for a score of high school musicals. In the warm months of the year, he pursues golf. In the non-golf months, he is an avid model railroader who spends hours in his basement working on his train layout. He is in his third year of directing the VHS Alumni Band and admits it is good to “…only have to work two days a year.”
